You think Cumberland is big?

Post by $parechange »

LAKE SUPERIOR
Pretty Amazing.
I did not realize how big this lake really is!

LAKESUPERIORFACTS
Lake Superiorcontains ten percent of all the
fresh water on the planet Earth.
It covers 82,000 square kilometers or 31,700
square miles..
The average depth is 147 meters or 483 feet.
There've been about 350 shipwrecks recorded
inLake Superior.
Lake Superioris, by surface area, the largest
lake in the world.
A Jesuit priest in 1668 named it LacTracy, but
that name wasneverofficially adopted.
It contains as much water as all the other Great
Lakes combined, plus three extraLake Erie's.
There is a small outflow from the lake at St.
Mary's River (Sault Ste. Marie) intoLake Huron.
But it takes almost two centuries for the water to
be completely replaced.
There's enough water in Lake Superior to cover
all of North andSouth Americawith water a
foot deep.
Lake Superiorwas formed during the last glacial retreat, making it one of the earth's youngest
major features at only about 10,000 years old.
The deepest point in the lake is 405 meters or
1,333 feet.
There are 78 different species of fish that call
the big lake home.
The highest wave ever recorded onLake
Superiorwas 9.45 meters or 31 feet high.
The shoreline of Lake Superior stretched out
in a straight line would be long enough to
reachfromDuluthto the Bahamas.
Over 300 streams and rivers empty into Lake
Superior with the largest source being the
NipigonRiver.
The average underwater visibility of Lake
Superior is about 8 meters or 27 feet, making it
the cleanest andclearest of theGreat Lakes. Underwater visibility in some spots reaches
30 meters.
The summer sun sets more than 35 minutes
later on the westernshoreofLake Superior
than at its southeastern edge.
Some of the world's oldest rocks, formed about
2.7 Billion years ago, can be found on the
OntarioshoreofLake Superior.
It very rarely freezes over completely, and then
usually just for a few hours. Complete freezingoccurred in 1962, 1979, 2003 and 2009.

My post was in Arabic. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It said exactly what I had posted in English. It really is unbelievable that they can't take a joke. Darn gets more boring every day.

I was threatened to be banned and had two threads killed for pointing out the photo limitations over there are draconian.

I just happen to like big pictures. :D

nah. The skater isn't putting out much of a wake. There's not enough of the boat in the water to push out a big wave. :D

There were 30 or so fast boats running back and forth down the main part of the lake all morning long, and Mr. Kayak figured he'd take the same path the whole distance of the area they were playing in. No reason he couldn't have spent his whole day without a need to go right down the main line. It's also very deceptive as to how close he was. It wasn't really that close of a pass. Look at the difference in the size of the people and the fact that the skater is gonna be something like 2.5 times the length of the kayak if they are side by side.
