Throw back Thursday? I know some of you have been around Lake Cumberland for a loooong time and some of you maybe not so long but your family has a history there. I would love for throw back Thursdays if some of you would start sharing some of your photos. Videos are great to, we can embed youtube vids OR you can actually upload up to a certain size wmv, mp3, etc. type vids directly to the forum.

Here to start are some old photos I got from someone a few years ago...

They don't necessarily have to be ancient like that but the older the better especially if it is with some old boats. Here is a pic from Summer 2005 which for ME was the "old days" on the lake since I didn't really show up till around 2004.

Tombstone Junction was on the way to Cumberland Falls coming from Somerset. I can't remember if its on hwy 1045 or KY-90. Part of the old sign is still there.

Well, I am a newbie to the Lake compared to most of ya and don't have a respository of old pics but here is a pic of the 1965 Mark Twain (my first boat) which came from a property just above Conley where it had been used on the lake for years. So here it he old before and the after shot after I had it buffed up and a new convertible top made for it.

Is this it?http://www.kyphotoarchive.com/2014/09/0 ... cave-1950/

A group from Transylvania College, including Dr. Willard Rouse Jillson, Bob Jones and Oscar Hinton, explored Crystal Cave in Pulaski County, Ky., in October 1950. The cave would soon be under water as Lake Cumberland was created by impounding the Cumberland River with the Wolf Creek Dam. This photo ran with a story story about the creation of Lake Cumberland and the flooding of Cumberland River valley, published in the Lexington Leader October 31, 1950. A group from Transylvania College, now Transylvania University, including Dr. Willard Rouse Jillson, head of the college’s Geology Department, Bob Jones and Oscar Hinton, explored Crystal Cave in Pulaski County in October 1950. The cave would soon be under water as Lake Cumberland was created by impounding the Cumberland River with the Wolf Creek Dam. This photo ran with a story about the creation of Lake Cumberland and the flooding of the Cumberland River valley. The story and photo were published in the Lexington Leader on Oct. 31, 1950.

My dad, Glenn Settle bought the boat in the early 1960s. This picture was taken at Lake Cumberland after dad repainted it and used it as a toy.

“Mr. and Mrs. Berry Howard of Cumberland, Kentucky, and the new truck he just bought with some of his black lung payments. He retired from the mines several years ago. The disease results from coal dust particles filling air sacs in the lungs and causes a progressive shortness of breath.”

Those are some of the coolest pictures I've seen. Boy, the poverty was palpable, huh? I still think it is a wondrous feat they pulled off back in those days.

I KNEW that was coming LOL

That boat, the first two years we owned it, would plane out @ WOT. Coming from the KY. River it was pulled every winter so there was no algae on it. Once it had set in LC for a fews years and all the things we threw in it, it slowed down a mile an hour or two.

I actually knee boarded from the little island to Gator 2 "ONCE" behind it, I would give anything now to have a picture of that.

I don't see how that could possibly be a photo of a greyhound bus in 1923. Maybe late 1930s or 40s. According to wackypedia, greyhound adopted its name in 1929

Marina/Ramp: Currently mostly out of Jamestown but spend a lot of time at the other Marinas.

Pre2012-Conley Bottom Mostly, Waitsboro, Alligator I&II ramps, Leesford, Pulaski County Park (when it has water), Grider, State Dock (via boat), and Jamestown are a few places you might find me.
